A group of Bissau-Guinean writers decided to create a local PEN International antenna under the designation of PEN CENTRE Guinea-Bissau.

The PEN CENTRE Guinea-Bissau is a non-profit, non-partisan association limited to writers, editors and translators on their literary merits, regardless of language, nationality, race, color or religion. Its main mission is the promotion of literature and the defense of freedom of expression.
